RONBOW Junior Designer
Custom cabinetry interior design in San Jose, CA | Internship, Summer 2024
Overview
In one of the industry’s leading interior design companies, RONBOW revolutionizes the field by incorporating cutting edge AI robotics and 3D software to create the highest quality custom cabinetry for California residential clients.
During my time, I worked on construction jobsites to make accurate measurements which were then used to create a 3-dimensional software model and renderings to present to clients.
-
Since RONBOW is a relatively small design company, the network of designers, administration, engineers, sales, and leadership is extremely tight knit. I put myself out there to help with all senior designers wherever I could. I also met with sales and engineering representatives and helped them reorganize and clean datasets. Finally, I worked closely with my mentor, Daniel Wang, the COO of RONBOW to gain a deeper understanding of the business goals and process of an interior design company.
-
As an intern, I was responsible for taking preliminary or verification measurements for Senior Designers. Spending long days on the construction site, I often had to work quickly to measure the entire house, work with general contractors, and reassure worried clients. I measured precisely all kitchen, bathroom, and closet walls, paying attention to the location of outlets, HVAC, and plumbing.
-
Designers use an in house CAD software, Design Studio, to realize and render proposals. After taking measurements, I translated these findings into a 3D Model where senior designers could easily then place in furniture and walk through the home with clients.
-
The customers and target audience of RONBOW often worry about the timeline and experience of the design proposal. While I made stunning renderings with Design Studio, they were not enough to win over a client. What got them to trust us designers was walking them through each step of the design process, having an incredible understanding of their wants, and being kind and patient.
-
In the final stages of the design process, construction drawings and casework details are made to send to the engineering team to be approved and produced. I helped almost all senior designers to draft plans and elevations. In addition, we created installation guides to help GCs and workers to better understand certain intricate mounting or opening systems.

Key Project - Airport Home Appliance Showroom Design
In light of a new partnership between RONBOW, Airport Home Appliance, and Wolfe/SubZero/Cove, I was tasked with submitting construction drawings, renderings, and installation guides to realize the showroom.
This project highlights the highest-end residential kitchen appliances available and the chic modern presence of RONBOW’s custom cabinetry. As of February 2025, the showroom is complete and well appreciated by new customers.
The placement of the island is precisely measure to allow conversation on the South Side while allowing enough space on the North Side to crouch and rotate to view appliances. I had to specially design most of the bigger cabinets, such as the wine cabinet and panel fridge, and LED lights mounts.
Old Jobsite
In Progress Jobsite
My summer experience at RONBOW has been incredible. Everything from working all day in a construction site measuring almost every wall of a client’s house to learning how to use Design Studio to create designs and renderings. I learned so much about what it means to work in a team and how to support others in a workplace setting. I want to sincerely thank Daniel, my mentor, as well as my favorite senior designers, Kristine, Wendy, and Ding Ding.
Taking everything that I’ve learned from the team and experience, I hope to move forward in my design career as a team player, ready to go the extra mile for clients, people, and design.
